Avocados. Superfood for super skin!

Avocados. Great for your skin. Great for your body.

Sure they taste great when used for guacamole, cut up over a scrambled egg or even in a smoothie. But what do avocados really do for our bodies? What makes them such a powerhouse of nutrition?

Avocados are rich in healthy fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants that can improve your skin from the inside out.

You heard that right. A diet high in avocados is excellent for your skin, especially your face! You see, fatty acids that make up the avocado keep your skin moisturized and soft.

In addition to adding healthy products, we also will highlight healthy foods that help take your skin to the next level of amazing. While we love providing healthy products for getting the skin you've always wanted, we realize what you put IN your body is super important, too.

Eating avocados also gives your body awesome skin protecting antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamins C, E, K, folic acid, magnesium, and potassium. Together those work to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant. Being rich in vitamin E also makes it a good source of antioxidants which help protect the skin from wrinkles and oxidative stress.

Another power nutrient found in their squishy green goodness are omega-3s which can be amazing for your joints, skin, vision, brain, heart and even helps to lower LDL’s (which is the bad cholesterol). Omega-3s have been proven to help fight the aging process while the anti-inflammatory properties help to control acne.

Avocados are high in fat.

Now, don't go getting scared that fats are bad. Some are, for sure. But healthy fats are essential for a healthy lifestyle.

We are in love with avocados at Bloom.

It is a fruit, not a veggie and we add avocado oil to almost every product we offer. The oil we use is cold-pressed from the fruit flesh only to obtain the most nutritious oil available. This powerhouse oil penetrates the deep layers of skin allowing it to actually transport nutrients to the dermis (the deep layer of skin), nourishing way down. Because avocado oil has amazing emollient properties, it is ideal for mature skin while also helping to relieve dryness and itching associated with psoriasis, eczema or other skin irritations.

Don’t you love avocados even more now?

All this talk about them is making me hungry! So go grab your blender (vitamix is my favorite), avocados and your favorite smoothie ingredients and drink to your health {y skin}!

My go-to smoothie ingredients even my boys love is as follows:

A big handful of organic spinach (more than you think you should put in a smoothie) + 1 banana + frozen berries + coconut milk (found here). I love buying in bulk to save $ and ensure I always have it in the house) + an AVOCADO (start with half an avocado for taste).

What is your favorite way to use AVOCADOS?
