The quality of ingredients is so important

As we learn more about food and how it is processed, organic certification provides protection against GMO's and other toxins plus it can ensure safe and healthy harvesting, growing environments. But relying on a product to be organic doesn't guarantee it is 100% safe, effective or healthy.

In my research, I have discovered that, while a product may be organic, it is almost always filled with organic alcohol, preservatives, and fillers that are useless, toxic and/or irritating to the skin. Just because a product claims to have an ingredient like cucumber seed extract, for example, doesn’t mean there aren’t junk ingredients in it also.

It's these extra ingredients that have kept people in dull, aging, and irritated skin for too long!

Back to the idea of organic. While many ingredients are "derived" from some plant, most have been processed to extract and isolate a particular compound of that plant. At Bloom, we choose to use plant oils that naturally contain Vitamin E rather than buying Vitamin E isolated in a laboratory. These processes are less than natural and void of many important nutrients naturally occurring in these plants.

This is found everywhere in the skin care industry. So, our passion is to be a company you can trust to take the guess work out of ingredients by using only plant oils, butters, extracts plus raw Manuka honey in their most natural state dense with active nutrients to soothe, restore and revive dull, aging and irritated skin.

Our ingredients are raw, virgin or filter refined, never solvent-refined (think something that dissolves something else), grown using organic and fair-trade practices when possible.

While the term "fair trade" has lots of political angles, we make sure that the ingredients we use are from farmers being paid a fair wage. When we visit the farmer's market, we aren't as concerned about organic certification as we are about their farming methods and whether they are organically minded. Our preference would be to support organically minded smaller farms doing honest work than pay a premium for boardroom execs. We don't get caught up in the bureaucracy of labels.

Our ingredient list is what makes our products so unique and effective at healing the skin, using only non-GMO plant oils, butters & extracts.

Because we only use nutrient dense, fresh & active ingredients (instead of all the fillers like water, preservatives, emulsifiers, alcohols, etc.) your skin is able to heal itself. It is similar to feeding your body only healthy ingredients. Your body will begin to detoxify because it doesn't have to spend so much energy processing the yuck but can focus energy on healing. The same is true for skin. This is what makes our products so effective.

sweet almond oil

People suffering from skin irritations can use Sweet Almond oil topically to reduce inflammation, redness, and itching which makes it a wonderful ingredient to reduce puffiness under eyes. A study conducted by Hamdard University in New Delhi, India, and published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology concludes that application of this oil on the skin not only protects the skin from harmful UV rays but also slows down the aging process. It's a great emollient, is absorbent and rich in vitamin E. It also contains magnesium, calcium, and vitamin D which packs it full of nutrients for our Renew lip & eye cream.

virgin argan oil

This special oil contains vitamin A, omega 6 & omega 9 fatty acids which provide antioxidant benefits like neutralizing free radicals. Because argan oil reduces skin inflammation and irritation, it helps cure numerous dermatological disorders such as eczema, psoriasis and even acne. It helps restore nutrient content to skin cells and regenerates skin by revitalizing the cell functions that prevent early skin aging due to sun, pollution, stress and smoking.

Argan oil is a highly effective skin moisturizer with anti-microbial properties and helps restore the natural pH of the skin which has been shown to increase elasticity and cause tightening of the skin. Because of it’s sebum regulating action, oil levels on skin are balanced; oily skin becomes less oily and dry skin, less dry. We love the sound of that!

avocado oil

While avocado oil is considered a veggie oil, it is actually a fruit which yields a rich deep penetrating oil, full of vitamins A,D, and E, lecithin and potassium. It is high in sterolins, which are said to reduce age spots, help heal sun damage and scars. This natural oil penetrates the deep layers of skin allowing it to transport nutrients to the dermis for increased effectiveness. Because avocado oil has amazing emollient properties, it is ideal for mature skin while also relieving dryness and itching associated with psoriasis, eczema or other skin irritations.

In 2001, a study published in Dermatology provided evidence that avocado oil could be a long-term topical therapy for psoriasis. Plus, France has given avocado oil Rx status because of it's ability to counter the negative affects of arthritis. Now, this was when taken internally but remember, your skin absorbs what is put on it. Woohoo!
